Role Overview:
CubeSpace (CS) is seeking a commercially minded and pragmatic Compliance Manager to lead and scale our compliance and risk practices across international markets.
This role sits at the intersection of legal, commercial, and operational decision-making ensuring the business operates within regulatory frameworks across South Africa, the EU, and the US, while enabling growth. You will partner closely with Sales and leadership to provide clear, actionable guidance that balances risk with commercial opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Sales Compliance
- Partner with Sales and Business Development to support compliant deal structuring and international transactions
- Povide clear, practical guidance on regulatory considerations impacting commercial activities (including EU and US requirements)
- Review and negotiate contracts, proposals, and commercial agreements to mitigate risk while enabling revenue growth
- Advise on commercial terms to ensure alignment with legal, regulatory, and company standards
International Trade Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable import/export regulations and trade controls
- Monitor and advise on cross-border trade laws, sanctions, and restrictions
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks in international transactions
Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance frameworks, policies, and internal controls
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements across all operating regions
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate them into actionable business guidance
- Draft, review, and maintain legal documentation, including NDAs and commercial agreements
- Standardise and manage contract templates and legal processes
Governance and Risk
- Establish and embed effective governance structures and internal controls
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain compliance risk registers
- Drive compliance awareness and training across the business
- Provide leadership with clear reporting and insights on compliance performance and risk exposure
Audit & Reporting
- Support and coordinate internal and external audits
- Ensure accurate and complete compliance documentation and reporting
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and audit-related queries
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Law, Commerce, Risk Management, or related field
- 5 - 8+ years’ experience in same or similar role
- Strong experience with international trade compliance with exposure to import/export regulations and EU and/or US exposure (both preferable).
- Proven experience supporting or partnering with Sales / Commercial teams on deals, contracts, and negotiations.
- Strong commercial legal experience, including drafting and reviewing NDAs, commercial agreements and customer and supplier contracts.
